The Maison de la montagne is a French sentence to say Mountain home, and it is a promoting and collecting study centre for improvement and development of the knowledge of the mountain resources. Head office is in Degioz, near he Town and its work is developed in 2 ways: Library activity and Operating office for Grand Paradiso Alp Guide Company.

Thematic Library has been found on July 3^rd 2004, and has a rich and accurate collection of books and works about mountain argument. All the material is classified by Dewey system to be available, by consulting or lending, for all people who want to improve their knowledge of mountain surrounding in its multiple variety. Library has also a particular careful field totally dedicated to young readers. There is also an updated  collection of books regarding Aosta Valley, historical mountain specialized magazines and newspaper library. All informatics support material like VHS, CD-ROM and DVD may be consulted there by using the apposite equipment, where you can find a free internet access too.

People visiting the Library is not only the mountain researcher, but even the tourist interested to the ambience he is visiting and that he tries to understand; a person who enjoy the relax and the quiet of this surround but need to approximate to the ancient knowledge of mountain people to understand their life, still linked to these  traditions in the Gran Paradiso area.

Many books kept in the Library are very valuable, for example the tratise on the Ibex written by Marcel Couturier in 1962. While he was writing, Marcel Couturier took many information from Felice Berthod, a very accomplished Park warden from Valsavarenche, mentioned 130 times in this book.  

In the last years, the Library has successfully developed the organization of activities promoting mountain ambience like shows, meeting, slides sights, and workrooms for children in order to improve their ambience education and their handiness and creative imagination.

Operating office for Grand Paradiso Alp Guide Company find in the Library the perfect place to settle down. Here, you can find a little alp guide museum, called permanent Museum of Gran Paradiso Alp Guide and you can see some valuable document, as the Memorandum of Association of the first Gran Paradiso Alp Guide Company. There are also the famous “personal books” issued by CAI, where Guide were used to write the particular events of their fascinating business. A little part of this show is dedicated to Renato Chabod, Valsavarenche Alp Guide, who wrote many books about alpinism, often illustrated by his drawing; these books are kept in the Library and have been given by Renato Chabod’s daughter, Valeria Chabod. In the museum you can see also the Alp Guide Full Dress, wore by Renato Chabod. He was a lawyer also, a member of Parliament and he had been Senate Vice-president in 1967. In 1975 he had been General President of Club alpino Italiano and he had been President of the prestigious Courmayeur Alp guide Company, because of his numerous and first-class performances. He presided for a few the Consorzio Nazionale Guide e Portatori del CAI and even Club Alpino Accademico Italiano.

Toaday, Gran Paradiso Alp Guide Company is composed by many Alpinismo teacher, members of Unione Internazionale Guide di Alta Montagna and operating members of Soccorso Alpino Valdostano.
