Opening time: 15/03 - 15/05 - 20/06 to 20/09 This refuge is situated near the Nivolet pass, that links Valsavarenche to Ceresole Reale in the Piemonte Region. It is managed by Alessandro Bado c/o Chivasso Cai that has only the free use because the refuge is property of the Valsavarenche Town. A part of the building is used for a not-guarded winter refuge. Just below, you can admire the beautiful lakes and appreciate the amazing nature. To join Nivolet Pass over the sentiero n. 3 leaving from the valley floor, you can take the road arriving from Ceresole Reale. From 9/7 to 27/08 the road traffic is closed in the last 6 km but there is a bus service.

It is situated at the bottom of the north-west Gran Paradiso face, deep in the same National Park, open even in spring for sci alpinismo (until mid-May) and since mid-June to mid-September for trekking and climbing. Comfortable and well organized, it is offering hotel services too, with 85 places with bathrooms and shower in summer season. This refuge is the best place to start the Gran Paradiso climb and from here you can admire the great view of the entire massif; it is linked to Vittorio Emanuele Refuge by a pleasant pathway from where you can see all the valley. It is easily reaching in two hours and a half with a comfortable path (n. 5) crossing a larch wood and arriving to a wide flowered slopes where you can sight many animals. Near the refuge there is also a palestra for rock-climbing. The Piccolo Paradiso company manages the refuge since its birth in 1985 respecting the Sistema di Gestione Ambientale defined by the rule iso 14001 under consulting of the Dipartimento di Scienze Merceologiche of Turin University. In fact, it has been the first refuge in the world having Certiquality UNI EN ISO 14001 quality trademark obtained in October 2001.

Hut Savoia, Lago del Nivolet

Just below Chivasso refuge, near the Nivolet inferiore lake, there is the Savoia Refuge managed by Arturo Dayné’s family. It was an ancient hunting house, used by Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I King, when they were used to get there for their holidays hunting in Valsavarenche. The two Nivolet Refuges can be reached leaving from Le Pont by pathway n. 3 in three hours. Even when road traffic is limited the Refuge guests can reach it driving their car only if they have the booking confirm signed by the manager. Many tourists have their lunch at Savoia Refuge, tasting cheeses made on step, as a great conclusion of a fascinating trip...............

Hut Vittorio Emanuele II, Grand Paradis

Leaving from Le Pont, by sentiero n.1, you can reach in 2 hours the Vittorio Emanuele II refuge. There are 2 building: the most recent one, with the characteristic convex roof, were made in 1932 under Celestino Dayné management and finished in 1962 under Valentino Dayné management, who was Celestino’s son. The other one, the most ancient, used as a not-guarded winter refuge, has been made in 1884 by the Turin CAI, dedicated to King Vittorio Emanuele II the first President of this Club. As this Refuge is situated in an important area of the Royal Hunting, King Umberto I decided that it should be managed by Direzione delle Regie Cacce. Today, it is conducted by 4061 Company of F.lli Blanc.
