
Many years ago there were many farmer with few animals; today in Valsavarenche there are few farms with many animals. One of these, in summer season has 200 head of cattle, cows and steers. So, in the past many families were working milk taking turns in the dairy, where they had to weight the milk on scales, today exposed in the museum, to correctly manage the dairy working. Today the farms are producing themselves cheeses and other dairy products, sold by wholesale and directly in farm where tourists can have a look on their work. Even the Town is renovating the old buildings near the pastures to grant some refuge for the herd and some houses for farmers and for the dairy operations. The administration is trying to promote agricultural activities because it is becoming a tourist attraction and in the goal to develop a rational use of territory, a real resource in Valsavarenche.
On this territory in the past, our ancient were used to graze and cultivate and they took much attention to its fertility. You can see today many marks of the irrigation systems, for example “les thoules”. Even though agricultural activities are not easy to manage, in Valsavarenche there are many young people employed in this business; the last one born here is the Anna Rotella’s Farm, a young girl breeding some beautiful white goats.
